MICROSOFT WORD FOR BEGINNERS
Microsoft word is an application used for typing, editing, designing and arranging word documents. It is a powerful word processing software developed by Microsoft Corporation. It's part of the Microsoft Office suite, which includes other popular productivity applications like Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. In today's class, we'll be looking at the tools, bars and other things used in Microsoft word.Watch, comment and subcribe to our YouTube Channel for better understanding.
To
start with:
First we open the
Microsoft Office Word. (Note: Microsoft word can only be opened on your computer
if the application is installed on your system. If you don't have Microsoft Word
installed, you'll not be able to open it. In my next class, I'll be showing you
how to install Microsoft Word). To open your Microsoft word on your computer;
Ø Click
on start button
Ø (Just
above your start button, A box will appear with a search button) Click inside
the box and search Microsoft Office Word.
Ø Click
on Microsoft Office Word.
The typing environment
is an empty space/blank page that appears when you open your Microsoft office
Word. Once you open Microsoft Word, the
typing environment will display. I'll be explaining the typing environment, the
bars and other things used on Microsoft Word.
Title Bar:
Title bar is the first bar in Microsoft word. It shows the title of our saved work on Microsoft word. On a new page, it displays as DOCUMENT because that particular page is not saved yet. The title changes immediately the page is saved. At the left side of the title bar, we have the office button; at the right side of the title bar we have the close button, restore down/maximize button and minimize button.
Office
button:
Office button is
located at the right corner of the title bar. It consist of New, Open, save,
save as, print, prepare, send, publish and close. I'll be explaining these
things one after the other.
New:
New is used for opening
or creating a fresh typing environment or new page on Microsoft Word.
Ø Click
on your office button
Ø Click
on new
Ø On
the down part of the box that will appear, you'll see create
Ø Click
on create.
Ø Your
new page is created.
Open:
Open is use to open an
existing work in Microsoft word.
Ø Click
on office button
Ø Click
on open
Ø A
box like stuff will pop out
Ø On
the right side of the box, select the location you saved work is
Ø On
the down part of the box
Ø Type
the name of the file you want to open
Ø Click
on open.
Save:
Save button is used to
save our document on Microsoft Word.
Ø Click
on office button
Ø Click
on save
Ø On
the right side of the box that will appear, select the location you want to
save your work.
Ø On
the down part of the box, type the name you want to save your file/document
with
Ø Click
on save.
Save
As:
Save as is used to
resave or rename a saved file or document.
Note:
Whenever we save a work, our title bar changes from document which is the
default file or document name to the name we save the file as. So using Save As will change the name of the document again and save it as the name we
choose now.
Ø Click

Ø At
the right side of the box that will appear, choose the location you want to
save your work.
Ø On
the down part of the box, rename the work or document you want to save.
Ø Click
on save.
Print:
Ø Click
on office button
Ø Click
on print
Ø A
box will appear showing of the printer and enabling us to make our setting
before printing.
Used for closing
Microsoft Word
Restore
down/maximize button
Use to make our window
smaller or bigger.
Minimize
button
Used to close our
Microsoft word temporarily.
Standard
Bar:
Standard bar is the
second bar in Microsoft Word. It display the Home, Insert, Page Layout,
References, Mailings, Review and View tab. Each of these tabs has different
ribbon.
Tools
bar/ribbon:
Tools bar is the third
bar in Microsoft word. It displays the tools/ribbon under the tabs in standard
bar (Home, Insert, Page Layout etc.). Tools bar/ribbon changes depending on the
tab you working on.
Rulers:
We have the vertical
and horizontal rules in Microsoft word.
We have the scroll bar
by the right side of the typing environment in Microsoft Word
Task
bar:
Task bar is the last bar in Microsoft word. It is located at the down part of the typing environment. It displays the number of pages we working on, the number of words, zoom level, zoom in and zoom out.
